Gay asylum seeker facing deportation from the UK

A gay asylum seek who fled Algeria, where homosexuality is illegal has been detained in an immigration removal centre and is facing deportation, according to the Plymouth Herald.
Ahmed Guerrah, 36, left the country after a campaign of physical and emotional abuse, and has claimed that he was tortured there. He was separated from his partner, who was arrested in Greece. The two have not spoken since, according to reports.
Friends say Mr Guerrah was housed in Plymouth after his application to remain in the UK was turned down by the Home Office.

presided over the Home Office from 2010 until she took over from David Cameron as Conservative leader today. In that time, the Home Office has faced heavy criticism for its mistreatment and “humiliation” of LGBT asylum seekers.
