Exclusive | Donald Trump asks Caitlyn Jenner to be his running mate
By Ben Kelly
Caitlyn Jenner is set to be Donald Trump’s pick for Vice President, in the latest stunning development in the race for the White House.
Jenner, who is a devout Republican, is believed to have provisionally accepted the plan proposed by the billionaire businessman, which would see the pair coupling up for a run even if Trump loses the Republican nomination and goes independent.
Earlier this year, Jenner told The Advocate that she was supporting Ted Cruz, and wanted to be appointed as a trans ambassador to him. But now it seems she’s been given a better offer from Cruz’s rival and the current front runner in the US Republican nomination race.
A source close to Trump said: “This is a conservative match made in heaven.”
The pair have much in common, notably the fact that they are two of the best known reality TV stars in the US.
Trump was the central star of The Apprentice on NBC from 2004 to 2010, while Caitlyn has long featured on E!’s Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and now has her own show, I Am Cait.

According to the source, who is close to Trump, the business tycoon believes Jenner will help him win key demographics he has thus far been struggling with, including women and the LGBT community.
He is alleged to have said: “Jenner is a winner, and I like winners. I like them very much. I don’t like losers. We’re talking about an Olympian here, I mean, come on, you don’t get much better than that.”
He apparently added: “And let’s be honest, she looks a lot better in a dress than Hillary Clinton.”
Jenner came out as transgender in 2015, and hasn’t been far from the headlines since, with her strong political opinions.
In the new series of her show I Am Cait, she claimed the democratic front runner Hillary Clinton “only cares about herself” and said that any Republican would be a better choice for trans people.
Just like Trump, this would be the first time Jenner has held any public office.

Update, 12.01: As you may have guessed, this indeed an April Fool – though sadly there are still more than a few left in the US presidential race…
