Despicable Me 3 announced by Universal for 2017

will be released in 2017, Universal Pictures has confirmed.

The studio have announced that the third instalment of the much-loved animated series will hit cinemas on June 30, 2017.

The movie will serve as the follow-up to last year’s Despicable Me 2, which has taken an estimated $935 million (£561mn) worldwide since being released in July.

Spin-off film Minions was also announced recently by Universal and will be released on July 10, 2015.

It has not yet been confirmed which members of the cast will be returning for Despicable Me 3.

Steve Carrell (Gru), Kristen Wiig (Lucy), Russell Brand (Dr. Nefario) and Miranda Cosgrove (Margo) voiced characters in last year’s sequel.
