Daily Mail hits back at critics of Tom Daley & Dustin Lance Black op-ed: ‘It’s not homophobic’

The right-wing newspaper is NOT happy

By Joshua Haigh

The Daily Mail has hit back at critics of Richard Littlejohn’s recent column about Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black.

The controversial columnist wrote an op-ed in which he asked readers to “pass the sick bag,” and claimed the couple’s baby announcement this week was a “publicity stunt”.

He also claimed that gay parenting is “not normal”.

After social media blasted the newspaper, a number of companies announced that they were pulling advertising from the newspaper, including the likes of holiday firm Centreparcs.

“We felt this placement was completely unacceptable and have therefore ceased advertising with the Daily Mail with immediate effect. We apologise for any offence this may have caused,” said the company.

In response to the backlash, the Daily Mail has blasted its “troll” critics in a statement, saying: “Had any of the political zealots who attacked Richard Littlejohn’s column actually read it they would know that he explicitly supports civil partnerships and the fostering of children by gay couples – hardly evidence of homophobia.

“Nor is it homophobic to ask whether it is right to deny a child the love of its own mother.

“It is very sad that any advertiser should give way to bullying by a tiny group of politically motivated internet trolls in their attempts to censor newspapers with which they disagree.”
