‘Clueless’ star Dash: ‘Republicans are for equal marriage’

Fox News contributor – and outspoken Republican – Stacey Dash has insisted that the Republican party support same-sex marriage.

Dash, who made her name playing Dionne Davenport opposite Alicia Silverstone in iconic 1995 teen flick Clueless, has become known for her forthright political opinions in recent years and has inked a deal to join controversial right-wing US network Fox News as a political contributor.

Asked by TMZ about the Republican party’s stance on same-sex marriages, she replied: “We are for equal marriage, we’re not against that. We’re not against that at all. We believe everyone should have the same rights… [Mixed messages] are just propaganda, and that’s just not true.

“That’s just a certain amount of people, you can’t just throw a blanket over everyone because certain people have one opinion,” she added.

Rick Perry, the Republican Governor of Texas, recently endorsed so-called “reparative therapy” for gay people, a process that purports to be able to change a person’s sexual orientation, which has been dismissed by the lion’s share of the medical profession.

Perry then caused a furore by apparently comparing homosexuality to alcoholism.
