Channing Tatum to present at GLAAD Awards

By Josh Haggis

Channing Tatum will present an award at the upcoming 26th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

The Magic Mike star will present the Stephen F. Kolzak Award next month (March) – given to a media professional who has “made a significant difference in promoting equality” – to openly gay director Roland Emmerich.

Roland

Emmerich, best known for directing films including Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, is being recognised for his tireless efforts to support the LGBT community and raise awareness of gay rights around the world.

In 2006, he pledged $150,000 to a campaign that was dedicated to gay and lesbian film preservation, and the following year he held an LGBT fundraiser on behalf of potential Presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.

“As one of Hollywood’s most sought-after film directors, Roland Emmerich has entertained audiences across the globe. His generosity has touched the lives of countless LGBT people, bringing shelter to homeless youth and preserving culture-changing stories that help close the gap to full acceptance,” said GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis.

Emmerich is currently filming Stonewall, a drama film starring Jonathan Rhys-Meyers that tells the story of the 1969 LGBT Stonewall Riots – widely regarded as one of the most important moments in American LGBT history.
