Campaign started to reinstate nudity at gay-friendly spa

By Josh Haggis

A group of activists have started a campaign to bring back naked bathing at a popular spa in the US.

The Country Club in New Orleans, which has been popular with gay travellers for the past 35 years, banned its patrons from bathing nude last year following complaints from local residents that led to the local council threatening to revoke the spa’s alcohol licence.

Now, a group of the spa’s regular visitors have created a petition urging the establishment to reinstate its clothing-optional policy.

“It’s just nudity.  It’s just nakedness.  Chill out!  That’s a social construct to think that being naked is dirty,” clubgoer Dillon Henderson told WGNO.

“To me they got rid of the policy, and I want it back.  The reasons why it went away are irrelevant to me,” he explained. “That’s why we thought why not organize a petition and see what kind of response we get and then go from there.  We are hoping that people sign the petition and get involved on social media using the #nudenotlewd.”

“I’m not a nudist.  I’ve been there dozens of times, and I’ve only been naked a handful of times.  It’s not about me running around naked.  It’s the option and the principle here.  Baring it all, your beautiful naked name,” he added.
