‘s Kavana has revealed that he is gay in a new interview.

The singer – who is part of the ITV2 show’s supergroup 5th Story – said that he “is almost embarrassed” that it has taken him so long to speak about his sexuality.

Speaking to Now Magazine, he said: “Part of me is almost embarrassed it’s taken me so long to publicly say I’m gay. Here I am, aged 36, coming out – what am I doing?

“I’ve never come out publicly because no one’s ever asked! It’s become this huge elephant in the room.”

Kavana had hits with I Can Make You Feel Good and Special Kind of Something in the late 90s.

He told the magazine that he never came out to his parents: “When I was involved in my first relationship with a guy, I told my sister Angela at her 40th birthday party. We were doing the can-can and I just said: ‘Oh, by the way, I’m gay!’

“I never told my mum or dad. My mum’s in a care home now. She’s got Alzheimer’s – it’s almost too late now to tell her. I don’t think it would do her any favors to let her know. My dad passed away four years ago.”

The Big Reunion continues on Thursday (February 13) at 9pm on ITV2.
