Alabama judge Roy Moore suspended over his attempts to block gay marriage
On Friday (May 6) Roy Moore was suspended after attempting to block same-sex marriage in Alabama state.
The Advocate reports that the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission is accusing Moore of violating judicial ethics over his attempts of blocking same-sex marriage even though the federal district and US Supreme courts stated that the same-sex marriage ban would violate the US constitution.
Moore is currently suspended with pay and if found guilty, he could lose his position on the court. In 2003 he was removed from his position because of a refusal to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the court building, he was then re-elected in 2012.
Moore has previously said that same-sex marriage would “destroy” the country.
