Sasha Colby, has celebrated being “a strong trans woman of colour” who is also a “kick-ass drag performer.”

The winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 thanked Attitude for presenting her with the Drag Award at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar on Wednesday (11 October).

“As if I didn’t get enough blessings this year,” Sasha began. “This is quite an honor. Thank you, Attitude Magazine for bestowing the cherry on top of an amazing year.”

Accepting her award, the former Miss Continental said that, “To do drag, be trans, be a native Hawaiian, it’s so powerful to just exist right now when they want to eradicate us. And to be successful as a strong trans woman of colour who just happens to be a kick-ass drag performer and a mother to many, a mother to all, and a mother to anyone who needs a safe space – and that’s what Attitude does.”

After 20 years at the top of the drag scene, Sasha Colby is truly a legend of the art form.

She took her name from the also legendary Cassandra Colby and is in turn the drag mother of fellow Drag Race alum, Kerri Colby.

“We are not going anywhere,” Sasha said, referring to trans people, in her Drag Race winner’s acceptance speech. Sasha also revealed her lip sync in a near-nude outfit was a “f**k you” to those pushing anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
