The LGBTQ rights activist and model, Munroe Bergdorf, has sent a strong and urgent message to the Labour leader on trans rights at the Attitude Awards.

Bergdorf was speaking exclusively to Attitude on the red carpet at the 2023 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar.

Following recent anti-trans rhetoric from Conservative politicians Bergdorf discussed the “need to bring the protest to every single space.”

She added: “It’s really important that we show that this is something that the whole community should fight back against together.”

Bergdorf also said that she wasn’t surprised “in the slightest” by any of the recent anti-trans comments from Tory MPs. Her message to the Tories was simply, “Time’s up,” as she called for the party to move on.

“We need to move this along. We need a government that’s going represent and serve people not weaponise them to their own ends.”

Addressing whether Labour can bring the change that is needed, Bergdorf said that she is hopeful Labour can do that.

However, she did not mince her words when it came to Starmer. Bergdorf slammed him saying he should “grow a backbone as well and not echo the same transphobic rhetoric as the Tories.

“I hope that he does a better job and I think that they will be the better party. But still, in terms of trans rights, they are yet to show they will implement the changes needed.”
