Clapham High Street stabbing: Police search for man seen in CCTV footage

"It is vital that we identify and locate him as soon as possible," police have said.

Police investigating a homophobic double stabbing in Clapham have released an image of a man they’re interested in identifying.

On Sunday (13 August) two men were admitted to hospital after being stabbed outside The Two Brewers at around 10:15pm. Both men were later discharged.

On Tuesday (15 August) evening the Metropolitan Police released a CCTV image of a man they are interested in identifying. The image was taken outside the Brewers in Clapham at the time of the attack.

“It is vital that we identify and locate him as soon as possible”

Detective Chief Inspector Jivan Saib, who is leading the investigation, has encouraged people to come forward with details of the man in question.

“It is vital that we identify and locate him as soon as possible,” he said. Enquiries are ongoing Saib has confirmed.

PC Hayley Jones, a dedicated LGBT+ Community Liaison Officer for Lambeth and Southwark added: “We understand some people from the LGBT+ community may not have the confidence to speak to police; my role was introduced to provide a dedicated LGBT+ point of contact to support the community and advise on investigations where homophobia and transphobia is a motive.

“You can contact me directly for advice and support, or to assist this investigation.”

Following the incident in Clapham, there has been an outpouring of support for the community from within and from allies.

The Clapham bar has thanked people for support adding that it’s “business as usual” and that “enhanced security measures” have been put in place.

On Monday one victim of the attack named Aniello said that he could not be prouder to be a part of the LGBTQ community.

“I would NEVER change it for the world,” he added.
