Snoop Dogg has spoken out about backlash he’s faced after commenting on LGBTQ+ representation in Disney films, recalling a situation with his grandchildren that left him scared to go to the cinemas.
On a recent episode of the It’s Giving podcast, the rapper described an experience watching Lightyear with his grandson. The movie includes a lesbian storyline where two female characters raise a child together.
“Teach me how to learn I’m not perfect” – Snoop Dogg after backlash over his LGBTQ+ Lightyear comments
The 53-year-old addressed the furore in the comments section of a Hollywood Unlocked Instagram post, writing: “I was just caught off guard and had no answer for my grandsons.
“All my gay friends [know] what’s up they been calling me with love,” he continued. “My bad for not knowing the answers for a six year old… teach me how to learn I’m not perfect.”
In his original statement this August, he told the podcast host he remembered thinking: “Oh shit. I didn’t come here for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.”
He continued: “It fucked me up, I’m like, scared to go to the movies. Y’all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don’t have an answer for.”
“The part that everyone came for got removed. Wild” – a user commented after his comments were edited from the podcast
Since, the podcast appears to have edited the episode to remove the section from the main upload.
Fans quickly pointed out the missing moment in the comments. “The part that everyone came for got removed. Wild!” one user wrote. Another added: “Don’t watch. They removed the content we all came here for.”
In response, the podcast pinned its own comment, explaining that the episode had been “mistakenly edited,” and shared a link to the clip where the rapper discusses the Disney film.
As well as fans, celebrities have called out Snoop Dogg for his comments, including the likes of RuPaul’s Drag Race regular judge TS Madison.

In a recent interview with TMZ Live, the TV personality spoke directly to the rapper about his comments.
“Snoop, you have music videos with women dancing and kissing other women. Dancing naked. So why is displaying lesbian behaviour in your music video appropriate, and you are afraid to answer questions from your grandchildren?” she asked.
Elaborating on the wider LGBTQ+ community, she said: “As a parent, you should also explain to your children that other things exist in the world outside of what you have deemed normal in your own home… Come on Snoop, be the legend you are.”
