Sabrina Carpenter has officially joined the shaving-cover club.

On the striking cover Interview magazine’s September 2025 issue, the pop superstar holds a straight razor near her lips, her face adorned with shaving cream, for a bold, playful look that has everyone talking.

But, after the image was released today (3 Sep), fans quickly drew comparisons to drag star Courtney Act‘s ‘Mean Gays’ single cover in 2024 – and Courtney herself has even joined the conversation.

“Close shave, Ms Carpenter,” the RuPaul’s Drag Race queen witted on Instagram, sharing a side-by-side of the pair. “Inspiring the next generation of pop girlies with this iconic image by Magnus Hastings from the cover of his book Why Drag?

Though this nothing is new – and women have been shaving their faces on magazine covers since the 1960s.

Here are some of our favourite caught-shaving moments from over the years.

Virna Lisi

Designed by George Lois, Italian actress Virna Lisi appeared on the cover of Esquire in the magazine’s March 1965 cover – becoming the first woman to do something traditionally seen only for men, shaving. With bold eyeliner and full lashes, Lisi pouted, her expression almost as if she’d been caught in a moment of beauty, fluster and foam.

KD Lang and Cindy Crawford

Double trouble! Singer KD Lang getting a clean shave from supermodel Cindy Crawford wasn’t on our bucket list until now. On the cover of Vanity Fair in August 1993, lang, dressed in pinstripes leans back against Crawford’s chest, grinning through a cloud of shaving cream as the model holds her neck and carves away with the razor. Who are we kidding… everybody wanted this.

Jessica Simpson

American singer and actress Jessica Simpson starred on the 2008 cover of the same publication. The shoot channels the original caught shaving moment of the 1965 cover featuring Italian actress and Marilyn Monroe doppelgänger Lisi, with a similar blonde bombshell updo. Giving us pure “shaving is a woman’s best friend” vibes.

Maryla Rodowicz

Esquire strikes with the blade once again! In the Hong Kong edition, singer and actress Fan Bing Bing graced the cover in August 2009, her chin covered in shaving foam.

Polish singer Maryla Rodowicz took to the front cover of Machina in June 2008 with a razor in hand, sporting bold crimped hair and striking a playful “oops, you just caught me” pose.

Myleene Klass, singer, model, and TV presenter, gave us a cheeky take on the viral shaving moment for the October 2009 cover of Fabulous magazine, complete with a wink. Surely, the Loose Women star needs to host an episode where her fellow talk show hosts join her in full-foam fabulousness!

Vana Barba

Greek actress and 1984 Miss World contestant Vana Barba posed in a pouty cut-throat razor moment, almost as sharp as her jawline, on the cover of Athens magazine in 2010.

Nora Arnezeder

French actress and singer Nora Arnezeder took on a serious close shave look for the striking front cover of Be magazine in 2012.

Courtney Act

Last but not least, and while not a magazine cover, Courtney teamed up with photographer Magnus Hastings for the cover of her 2024 single, ‘Mean Gays’.
