Mama Ru has given many RuPaul’s Drag Race fans the answer they’ve been longing for; Shangela should have been crowned a winner.

It’s been a source of debate among the Drag Race fandom for many years, and RuPaul has at last given a clear and unequivocal answer on the subject.

Shangela first appeared on season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race before coming back for season three. She then appeared on All Stars season three, where she was ultimately placed in third or fourth place, beaten to the crown by Trixie Mattel. Shangela also appeared on the Holi-slay Spectacular.

Since All Stars, Drag Race fans have argued that Shangela was robbed. After all, she had won three main challenges to Trixie’s two.

But on a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen RuPaul was asked which runner-up queen would she have crowned as a double winner if she had the chance.

After Andy Cohen asked a more straightforward version of the question RuPaul answered, “Shangela.”

Continuing she said of Shangela, “She’s amazing. I actually put her on the show three times, I think, something like that. She’s a fabulous queen.”

Fans were elated to hear Mama Ru’s verdict. In the comments on TikTok, one person wrote: “Yassss Shangela,” while another claimed she was: “The rightful winner of All Stars”.

“Shangie should have won!” wrote another while someone else thought, “This is such a high compliment”.

Recently Shangela made history as the first drag contestant on the US reality show, Dancing with the Stars. She placed fourth but not without setting the dance floor ablaze with her routines.

Shangela was not the only Drag Race star to get some attention from Ru on Watch What Happens Live. Ru also discussed Jinkx Monsoon’s turn in the musical Chicago on Broadway.

“I predict that this is the first of many Broadway roles for Jinkx Monsoon. She’s a genius that kid,” says Ru after slightly butchering Jinkx’s standout joke from the All Stars winners season roast challenge.

RuPaul’s Drag Race season 15 returns on 6 January in the US on MTV. It will be available from 7 January on WOW Presents Plus in the UK.
