Zoe Ball’s teenage son Woody Cook has opened up about his bisexuality during a heartfelt moment on Channel 4’s The Circle.

The 18-year-old son of BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show host Ball is currently competing on the second series of Channel 4’s reality gameshow, where players compete to win popularity and a cash prize using just social media personas, either real or fake.

Cook, a model and student who came out publicly earlier this year and is playing as himself on the show, became involved in a heart-to-heart about his sexuality with fellow contestant Georgina after finishing at the bottom of a ratings vote.

“Being bisexual on The Circle, I thought I was going to have loads of chat. But in actuality, I think being 18 scared everyone away,” Cook told Georgina via the show’s messaging system.

“I’m embarrassed to say that I flirted a bit with Judy [the alter-ego of contestant Richard Madeley] but I don’t think it went down the best. #worthashot.”

Reading Woody’s message, Georgine said aloud: “He didn’t actually have to just open up the way he has, so I don’t want to make a big thing of it because it’s not a big thing at all.”

Woody, whose father is DJ Fatboy Slim – a fact currently unknown to his fellow contestants on The Circle – went on to share his coming out story with Georgina.

“It’s a funny story really. I was at a party when I was 15, I was chatting to a girl who was gay, and I told them I was bi to impress them,” he wrote.

“The next day I woke up and I realised drunk Woody was telling the truth.”

Disucussing his sexuality publicly for the first time in a magazine interview earlier this year, Woody revealed that his mum Zoe had initially taken time to process the news that he was bisexual.

“I told my mum and her first reaction was, ‘You can’t be, you like girls?'” he recalled.

“Then I got her to look back upon her group of friends and she started to realise she knew more bi people than she thought. I think it was a bigger thing in her time.

“I am bisexual. It’s something I’ve known for three years. I always felt, growing up, that I had all these thoughts and I just shook it off.”

The Circle continues tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
