Will Young blasts Jeremy Clarkson and ‘The Grand Tour’ over ‘pathetic’ gay jokes in new episodes

The hosts of the Amazon motoring show make a series of jokes about a Jeep Wrangler in their new Colombia special.

Will Young has publicly blasted Amazon’s The Grand Tour over a series of ‘gay’ jokes included in its latest episodes.

The ‘Leave Right Now’ singer, 40, fired off a series of furious posts on Twitter on Monday (28 January) over “homophobic” comments made by hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May on the motoring show’s Colombia Special, branding the trio “bigoted, immature babies.”

In the two-part episode, Clarkson, Hammond, and May poke fun at a 4×4 Jeep Wrangler for being a stereotypically “gay” vehicle, with Clarkson branding it an “LGB-Jeep”.

The former Top Gear presenter, who was fired from the BBC three years ago after punching a producer because he wasn’t offered a steak for dinner, also ridicules the LGBT acronym, asking May: “What is it, ‘lesbian bacon, transgender’…?”

After Clarkson pulls up in the Jeep during the episode, Hammond tells him: “I’m proud of you. That’s a hard thing to do and you’ve don it. You’re going to be so much happier.”

He later adds: “You should have gone the whole hog… maybe some nice chaps, sude but ventilated at the back. And that [pink] shirt, you’ve picked up that colour – have you been getting advice?”

Later in the episode, ‘It’s Raining Men’ plays on the Jeep’s stereo, prompting Hammond tells Clarkson: “Think of it as advertising.”

Clarkson also references the backlash to comments by Hammond made on the show in 2016, when the TV personality said that eating ice cream was ‘gay’, by jokingly eating an ice cream in the vehicle.

Young, has revealed last year that he was taking an “elongated” break from music, has now slammed The Grand Tour‘s presenters, as well as Amazon Prime for airing the jokes.

In an angry series of posts on Twitter, the former Pop idol winner branded Clarkson, Hammond and May’s behaviour “fucking pathetic and actually homophobic.”

Young went on: “They can’t rest on laurels of ‘oh we are just politically incorrect’ It’s sad and shaming, bigoted and for fucks sake grow up.

“How dare they stereotype gay men. I DON’T drive a Wrangler Jeep. I DON’T wear pink shirts. I DON’T wear arseless chaps. You can be honest and funny without this ridiculous ‘lad’ ooh being gay and let’s laugh about it mentality.

“It’s repulsive and how DARE you do it and put it out @PrimeVideo.”

He continued: “I mean being gay is just SO funny for those type of straight men @PrimeVideo.”

“And you know what really fucks me off is this is a DECISION by the producers. Let’s make one of the narratives the ‘gay Jeep’ how DARE you you obtuse, bigoted immature babies of men.”

He added: “Screw them and the show and Amazon… for putting this shaming archaic trype out [sic]”.

Following the gay ice cream furore in 2016, Hammond denied accusations that he was homophobic, telling the Times: “I entirely reject any criticism of me being anti-gay. That’s just not the case.

“The very last thing I am is in any way anti-gay. And I said I believe that love is love.”

He added: “There are people who are genuinely homophobic and they would disagree with my view that love is love and people are who they are.”
