The US actor plays a "woman on the edge with nowhere to go" in the upcoming comedy.

Will & Grace’s Sean Hayes has adopted an unlikely character in his first film role since it was announced the hit NBC sitcom is coming to an end once again.

The US actor, 49, stars as a cisgender woman looking to get her life together in upcoming comedy Lazy Susan – and the first full-length trailer has now been unveiled.

Hayes plays Susan O’Connell, “a woman on the edge with nowhere to go but over”, in a film which also stars Allison Janney and Matthew Broderick.

“Lazy Susan is a story about a spectacularly unmotivated cisgender woman for whom doing nothing is exhausting”, a synopsis reads.

While we’re all for subverting gender norms when it comes to movie roles and casting, we can only hope that the comedy in Lazy Susan doesn’t come at the expense of those who don’t present as the gender they identify with. Lord knows the world has enough of that already…

Lazy Susan is released on 3 April in the US. Check out the trailer below:
