Wicked the movie gets an official release date

By Fabio Crispim

We’ve got some great news here.

One of the greatest and most popular theatre shows on Broadway and the West End will be getting the big-screen treatment.

Universal has announced that the movie adaptation of Wicked the Musical will be released on December 20, 2019.

According to The Metro, the film is set to be directed by Stephen Daldry who directed Billy Elliot back in 2000. Daldry will be collaborating with Wicked’s author, Winnie Holzman and composer Stephen Schwartz.

While the cast hasn’t been announced yet, we’re sure they won’t disappoint.

The musical tells the untold story of the witches from The Wizard of Oz and has been been one of Broadway’s longest-running plays.

2019 is far away, but we can just watch the play to keep us occupied. Right?

Meanwhile, Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth reunited for a Wicked performance.
