Watch: Were both the Kray Twins bisexual?

By Will Stroude

The Kray Twins’ sexuality has long been the subject of speculation, and now a new documentary is adding its voice to the historical conversation with claims that both of the notorious East End gangsters were bisexual.

The brothers – who will be jointly played by Tom Hardy in upcoming crime biopic Legend – were London’s most infamous criminals in the 1950s and ’60s. After years of involvement in armed robberies, arson, extortion, assaults and even murder, the pair were finally arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1969.

While Ronnie was openly bisexual – and arguably gay – witnesses close to the pair have told new documentary The Kray Twins: Kill Order that his ostensibly straight brother Reggie was also bisexual, The Express reports.

They claim that Reggie’s marriage to wife Frances O’Shea – who died following a mysterious drug overdose in 1965 after just two years of marriage – was a sham, and that he was actually in love with her brother.

“They were both bisexual,” says Maureen Flanagan, the former hairdresser to the Krays’ mother, Violet.

Flanagan goes on to point the finger at Ronnie for being behind the death of his brother’s wife, saying he disliked Frances’ long-running obsession with Reggie.

“There was only two people on Earth could stop him, and that was Violet Kray and Reggie,” she says.
