‘Torchwood’s Ianto Jones is being revived for new audio series

By Will Stroude

After six years of painful mourning, Torchwood fans have finally had their prayers answered: Ianto Jones is coming back!

It’s been confirmed that Gareth David-Lloyd will reprise his role as the fan-favourite alien fighter in a new audio drama continuation of the Doctor Who spin-off, DigitalSpy reports.

Ianto will be making a comeback in the second installment of Big Fish’s audio drama series, Torchwood: Fall to Earth, which is due out in October, just a month after John Barrowman reprises his role as Captain Jack Harkness for series opener, The Conspiracy.

Ianto appeared in the first three series of BBC Three’s Torchwood, where his blossoming romance with Captain Jack quickly became a staple of the show, leaving viewers heartbroken when he was tragically killed off in 2009 mini-series Children of Earth.

Of the decision to bring Ianto back for the audio continuation of the cult drama, writer and producer James Goss said: “Well, how could we not?

“Ianto’s such a brilliant character, and if we kept people on tenterhooks any longer, we’d be fools. Of course he’s in [the audio series] and as soon as possible.

“We recorded with [Gareth] literally the first day after he finished a theatre tour. Did he want to put his feet up? Nope. He wanted to be Ianto.”

Torchwood: Fall to Earth is available for pre-order now from Big Finish, and will be followed by four more installments released monthly at the beginning of 2016. Until then, you can weep yourself into a frenzy below:
