Tom Daley has been voted the biggest inspiration in sport to British teenagers.
The Olympic bronze medallist, 19, topped a poll organised by the National Citizen Service (NCS), a government-run organisation which aims to help 16 and 17 years to build life and work skills, take on new challenges and meet new friends.
Tinie Tempah was voted biggest inspiration in fashion, while model/actress/website creator Lily Cole was named most inspiring digital innovator, Yahoo! reports.
The winners of the poll were announced last night (March 1) at a special gig at London’s Brixton Academy headlined by Nina Nesbitt, who was voted biggest inspiration in music.
In a pre-recorded video message accepting his award, Tom Daley said: “It’s amazing to be part of all the amazing effort you are putting in, so keep up the good work.”
Daley won a bronze medal in the men’s diving 10 metre platform event at the 2012 London Olympic Games. He has since appeared as an expert mentor on two series of ITV’s celebrity diving contest Splash!.
Last December (2013) he revealed he is in a relationship with a man.
