Actor and social media personality Benito Skinner will be helming Amazon Studio’s coming-out comedy series Overcompensating, with pop star Charli XCX in the executive producer chair.

The 29-year-old is best known for his viral parody skits and hilarious characters across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok as his online persona Benny Drama.

Skinner has appeared as Jack Cole Jordan on Queer As Folk and also guest-starred on Search Party and Showtime’s Ziwe.

Overcompensating is inspired by Skinner’s own life, a “poignant, personal, and deeply funny” comedy, according to Deadline.

The A24-produced show will follow Benny, an Idaho football player, as he struggles to accept his sexuality in college and overcompensates as he tries to fit in and wrestles with self-acceptance.

The synopsis reads: “this ensemble comedy explores the experiences we all have in figuring ourselves out – the various personalities we try out along the way, and the journey to find the people who accept us just as we are.”

“AH!!!!!!!!!! Been waiting to share this for the past 2 years… I am so proud of this project and can’t believe all the incredible people I get to make it with,” Benito Skinner wrote on Instagram following Overcompensating’s announcement.

“It’s hard to describe what a dream this is, but I just want to say thank you for supporting me!!! I LOVE YOU, and I know you are going to love this show,” he continued. “It’s my baby and my favorite thing I’ve ever written.”

Jonah Hill’s Strong Baby Productions and Charli XCX are set to executive produce the series, we can only hope that the latter will also be responsible for the soundtrack.

Charli XCX recently released ‘Hot Girl (Bodies Bodies Bodies)’ for A24’s electric, Gen Z murder mystery film, Bodies Bodies Bodies.

Ahead of Overcompensating, Benito Skinner will star in Chelsea Peretti’s comedy First Time Female Director.
