The Prom: Watch the trailer for Ryan Murphy’s super gay Netflix teen rom-com

Starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Andrew Rannells and more!

By Jamie Tabberer

The Prom, the new Netflix film from Ryan Murphy, has released its first trailer.

The film is adapted from 2016 Broadway musical of the same name.

Meryl Streep leads the all-star cast, which also includes James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Keegan-Michael Key, Andrew Rannells, Ariana DeBose and Kerry Washington.

“I just want to go to prom like any other kid”

The movie’s plot follows a high school girl who wants to take her girlfriend to the prom in a conservative Indiana town, but faces resistance from homophobic teachers. She turns to a group of near-washed up, self-obsessed theatre stars for help.

In the clip, a divatastic Meryl is seen using Tony Awards to demand a bigger room in a dingy hotel (“Now do you have a suite?”), while elsewhere main character Emma (Jo Ellen Pellman) is heard saying: “I just want to go to prom like any other kid.”

Pass the tissues.

The Prom follows Murphy’s recent successes with TV shows Ratched and Hollywood, plus film Boys In the Band.

Sharing the above picture of the cast on Instagram last month, Murhpy wrote: “Meet the incredible icon-packed cast of Netflix’s THE PROM.”

The Prom drops on Netflix on 11 December 2020.
