In a new interview, the legendary composer, best known for his work on stage musicals and films including Sweeney Todd and Into The Woods, has thrown some serious shade at the popstar’s celebrated Sound of Music tribute performance.

“On the Academy Awards she was a travesty,” Sondheim told The Times. “It was ridiculous, as it would be from any singer who treats that music in semi-operatic style. She had no relationship to what she was singing. What people liked was her versatility.”
