Sia responds to music video ‘paedophilia’ controversy

Sia has defended herself against the claims of “paedophilia’ made against her latest music video.

The video for her new single Elastic Heart sees 12-year-old Maddie Ziegler – who also appeared in the Aussie singer’s Chandelier video last year – perform an unsettling dance routine alongside Transformers star Shia LaBeouf – watch the video here.

Following its release earlier this week (January 7), a number of critics have labelled the video “disturbing” and accused it of sexualising the relationship between LaBeouf and Ziegler.

Sia has now addressed the controversy in a series of tweets, revealing that she had “anticipated” the backlash, but that LaBeouf and Ziegler were the “only two actors she felt could play” the characters portrayed in the video.

Elastic Heart is the second single to be lifted from the 39-year-old Sia’s sixth studio album 100 Form of Fear,which peaked at Number 11 on the Official UK Album Chart last July.
