Sharon Osbourne has said she thinks Simon Cowell has a “gay-ish” air about him.

Last week, jurors at former X Factor judge Tulisa Constostavlos’s high-profile drug trial heard a recording of Contostavlos’s PA, Gareth Varey, telling undercover reporter Mazher Mahmood that he knows men who have had sex with the X Factor boss. Cowell later dismissed what was heard as a “false suggestion” and insisted that the idea of questioning someone’s sexuality is now “antiquated” in 2014. Yesterday (July 23) Varey apologised to Cowell and admitted what he said in the recording is “not true” – read his full statement here.

While appearing on the latest episode of Loose Women-style US chatshow The Talk, the issue of celebrities hiding their sexuality came up, and Osbourne said: “I’m not condemning them, but it’s sad that people do have to do that and they don’t have the wherewithal, the strength or whatever their circumstances to live the lives as they want to.”

She then brought up her friend and former X Factor colleague Cowell, saying: “However, so many people do ask if Simon Cowell is gay. I don’t know why! He does have a very gay-ish – which I think is fabulous – air about him.”
