Seth Meyers hilarious comeback to anti-gay Republican

By Aaron Tamazou

Seth Meyers has mocked Republican candidate Scott Walker’s fumbling over the issues of attending same-sex weddings.

In a segment of his show Late Night with Seth Meyers entitled Live Free or Die Tryin’, Meyers pokes fun at Walker’s comment to a New York Times reporter in New Hampshire that he had attended a gay wedding reception but not the ceremony.

“Tonette [his wife] and I and our family already had a family member who’s had a reception,” said Walker. “I haven’t been to a wedding. That’s true, even though my position on marriage is still that it’s defined between a man and a woman, and I support the Constitution of the state. But for someone I love, we’ve been to a reception.”

Meyer’s responded to the comment on his show earlier this week: “Hey we all want to just go to the reception. The open bar is the payment for sitting through the service,” said Meyers. “You sir, are a freeloader.”

He goes on to make light of the comments of another Republican candidate at the same gathering in New Hampshire last week, Marco Rubio, who opposed same sex marriage but has already been to a gay wedding, saying “I’m not going to hurt them simply because I disagree with the choice they’ve made.”
