Sarah Paulson ‘may pop up’ in American Horror Story: 1984.

The AHS allum has starred in every season of Ryan Murphy’s hit anthology series but as the upcoming ninth series was announced, the actress – along with long-time AHS star Evans Peters – confirmed she wouldn’t be joining the main cast.

As fans around the world were devastated at the news that she won’t be featuring in the new season, Paulson has now teased she may ‘pop up’ as the series gets underway.

While speaking to Entertainment Tonight, the actress said it’s been ‘bittersweet’ not being part of the new season.

She said: “It’s a little bittersweet because I have a lot of friends who are still on the show.

“So, I’m getting updates about how it’s all going and what they’re doing, and I’m like, ‘Wait, what? You worked until two? Oh, I remember working until two on that show’.

“And then I’m also very glad that I can wake up at  a decent hour because I’m not cross-eyed from having worked insane nights.

“But, it’ll be hard. I’ll be watching and cheering everybody on. I’m really excited for this season.

“I think it’s a really cool idea for the show this year. And you never know, I may pop up. You never know. No promises though.”

So far, we know the likes of Emma Roberts, Leslie Grossman, Cody Fern, Billie Lourd and John Carroll Lynch will all be returning to the franchise.

Newcomers include Gus Kenworthy, Pose star Angelica Ross, and Glee’s Matthew Morrison.

American Horror Story: 1984 premieres on 18 September on FX in the US and on 19 September on Fox in the UK.
