Sam Smith has been added to the line-up for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards.

The British singer will take to the stage at Sunday’s (August 24) ceremony, joining the likes of Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Beyoncé on the bill.

On his performance, Smith said: “I have watched the VMAs every year since I was a kid. I am so insanely nervous but also so honoured to be performing. This truly is a ‘pinch yourself’ moment for me.”

He has enjoyed critical and commercial success in the US with his debut album In The Lonely Hour, which was released earlier this year.

Iggy Azalea, Jessie J, Rita Ora, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Usher and 5 Seconds of Summer will also perform at the ceremony.

The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California on Sunday. MTV in the US will air the ceremony on Sunday from 8pm. The ceremony will air in the UK on Monday (August 25) at 8pm.
