Sam Smith has said being referred to as ‘they’ feels ‘beautiful’.

The singer, who came out as non-binary while speaking to Jameela Jamil back in April, previously opened up about struggling with coming to terms with being non-binary in an interview with June’s issue of British GQ.

In the interview, the singer said ‘hi/him’ are still the preferred pronouns. Sam also told the publication how they want their family and friends to start using ‘they’.

Earlier this week, the ‘Writings on the Wall’ singer joined James Barr on Hits Radio and following the interview, Barr wrote on Twitter: “just interviewed @samsmith and they sounded so happy and free and more themselves than ever. it’s made me feel like the world is a good place again @hitsradiouk”

Sam then replied saying how the use of ‘they’ was ‘beautiful’ and wrote: “You’re one of the first people to use these pronouns with me. Thank you. That feels really beautiful.”
