Sam Smith: ‘I don’t want my sexuality to be a talking point’
By Josh Haggis
Sam Smith has said that he doesn’t want his sexuality to be a talking point.
After revealing earlier this year that his debut album In the Lonely Hour was written about his unrequited love for another man, the 22-year-old soul singer has explained in a new interview that he wants people to focus on his voice, not his sexuality.
“My aim is to tell people how good it’s been for me so that, hopefully, gay men or parents with gay children can look at my story and think, ‘Wow, that’s how it should be; that’s what we can work towards,'” Smith told Out.
“That’s been my whole motive – to not make it a talking point. My music should be a talking point. My voice should be a talking point,” he added.
The Money on My Mind singer spoke last month (October) about how much he’s looking forward getting married and having children. Find out more here.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Smith is set to record a cover version of Whitney Houston’s It’s Not Right but It’s Okay – get all the details here.
