Earlier this year, it was reported that Lana Wachowski will be back in the writer’s and director’s seat for the fourth instalment of The Matrix.

Back in 1999, the Wachowski sisters, Lana and Lilly, helmed the first instalment of the hit sci-fi franchise – which went on to spawn two sequels – and starred the likes of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Ann Moss and Laurence Fishburne.

Although the third movie saw the demise of the main characters Neo (Reeves) and Trinity (Moss), Lana Wachowski confirmed she is working on a fourth film with Reeves and Moss reprising their iconic roles- making her the first out, transgender director is helming a Hollywood blockbuster.

As the weeks past, more and more cast members have been revealed including Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff and Jada Pinkett Smith, who played Niobe in The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions – although there is still no talk about whether Fishburne will be back as Morpheus.

Other casting rumours include Aquaman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II – who is reportedly signed on to play a young Morpheus.

Filming is set to start in 2020 and now Warner Bros. have set a May 21, 2021 date for the fourth film, the Hollywood Reporter claim.

The date also marks the release date of John Wick 4 – another Keanu Reeves-starring movie.
