‘Ratched’ trailer: Sarah Paulson is the nurse of your nightmares in new Ryan Murphy drama

One of literature's most famous villains is getting her own origins story.

After getting our first look at Sarah Paulson in Ratched last week, the first trailer for Ryan Murphy’s devilish new Netflix series has landed – and it looks every bit as deliciously dark as you’d hope.

The eight-part series – set to premiere on Netflix on Friday 18 September – tells the dark origins story of Nurse Ratched (Paulson), the famed antagonist from Ken Kesey’s classic 1962 novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Ratched, which has been ordered by Netflix for two limited series, also stars Finn Wittrock, Cynthia Nixon, Charlie Carver and the legendary Sharon Stone (who interviews star of Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, Jake Picking, in the Attitude August issue, out now).

A synopsis reads: “In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind.

“On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be, but the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it, Mildred’s stylish exterior belies a growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born.”

Ratched lands on Netflix on Friday 18 September. Watch the first trailer below:
