Speaking to HuffPost Live, the out gay actor said: “My feeling about James, in particular, is that he’s someone who is really interested in generating a dialogue. I think it’s certainly an issue in society today that warrants provocative discussion.

‘People are probably more comfortable not talking about these topics,” he added. “So I feel like putting it out there, and putting it out there in different ways, is something that’s interesting and something that I don’t think people should shy away from.”

Franco and Quinto star as gay lovers in Michael, which tells the story of former gay activist Michael Glatze, who later denounced homosexuality and became an anti-gay pastor.

Franco has previously worked on numerous gay-themed films, including Milk, Howl and Interior. Leather Bar.
