Nick Grimshaw quits The X Factor

By Will Stroude

Nick Grimshaw has announced that he has quit The X Factor after just one series as a judge.

The BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host, whose controversial appointment to the judging panel divided viewers and incurred the wrath of show stalwart Sinitta last year, has apparently decided not to return for 2017.

A spokesperson for Grimshaw also told The Sun: “After careful consideration, Nick’s decided to rule himself out as a judge on this year’s X Factor.

“He loved working on last year’s series alongside Rita, Cheryl and Simon but it was very much a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He remains a massive fan of the show and is looking forward to watching it this year.”

An X Factor spokesperson confirmed the news to DigitalSpy, saying the show would be sad to see the 31-year-old go.

“Nick was a great mentor on last year’s series. He did a fantastic job with the boys’ category and we’d like to thank him for all his hard work. We are sad to see him go but wish him all the best,” they said.

“Details for the new series of The X Factor are still being discussed and will be announced in due course.”

Co-presenter Caroline Flack’s job is also rumoured to under threat, as show boss Simon Cowell prepares to shake up the show ahead of its 13th season this summer.
