Nick Grimshaw addresses Harry Styles romance rumours

The Radio 1 DJ was put on the spot in a recent interview.

For years, rumours have flown that Nick Grimshaw and Harry Styles are – or at least were – in fact an item.

Because, you know, it’s totally implausible that two guys could just be good friends when one of them is gay, right? *eye-rolls*

Now, Grimmy, 33, has attempted to out the rumours to bed once and for all, telling The Sun’s Dan Wootton for his The Dan Wootton Interview podcast that the pair’s relationship has never been anything more than platonic.

“No, no. Not at all,” he said when asked point-blank whether he’d ever dated former One Direction star Harry, 24.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ continued: “It was an odd, odd thing to happen. It wasn’t very weird at the time, it’s weirder now.

“At the time, you’re just getting on with your life and you’re doing the radio and just hanging out and you’re like, whatever.

“But it was weirder when he came on to do the solo stuff and I started doing my Harry research, writing questions and stuff, and when I Googled him I was like, ‘This is actually a thing!'”

Grimmy, who is set to swap the Breakfast Show for Greg James’s Drivetime slot in the coming weeks, added that he believed the rumours stemmed from gay stereotyping.

“I don’t know if it’s because we were both Northern and had quite a similar sense of humour and because he was down in London and away from northerners and friends and family and we all just ended up hanging out together and getting on,” he explained.

“I think that people assumed that because I was gay and he wears like floral shirts that he must be gay, and they were like they must be going out with each other.

“But I don’t know, it was something we never actually discussed together.”

Of course, Grimmy isn’t the only male star Harry’s been linked with – his former bandmate Louis Tomlinson was forced to deny last year that the pair had been involved during their time in One Direction – click here to find out more.
