New US show ‘My Husband’s Not Gay’ branded “dangerous”

New US show My Husband’s Not Gay has been branded “dangerous” by LGBT watchdog GLAAD.
The series – which is set to air its pilot episode on Sunday (January 11) – follows men who have decided to marry women in order to bury their homosexual feelings.
GLAAD President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, said: “This show is downright irresponsible. No one can change who they love, and, more importantly, no one should have to. By investing in this dangerous programming, TLC is putting countless young LGBT people in harm’s way.”
However, television network TLC, who commissioned the project, said that it is the latest in a long line of “compelling stories about real people and different ways of life, without judgement”.
“The individuals featured in this one-hour special reveal the decisions they have made and speak only for themselves,” the network added.
A petition to cancel the programme has also been launched by Josh Sanders, a gay Christian who was subjected to “six months of so-called ‘reparative therapy'” in an attempt to change his sexuality.
Sanders argued that My Husband’s Not Gay “promotes the false message that gay people can and should choose to be straight in order to be part of their faith communities”. His petition has so far attracted more than 80,000 signatures.
