has won the International Media Recognition Award at the Attitude Awards 2014.

The acclaimed US sitcom, which airs on Sky1 in the UK, has been honoured for its representation of a diverse array of relationships, including loveable gay couple Mitch and Cam.

The cast of the series recorded a special video message to thank Attitude for the award, which was screened at tonight’s (October 13) star-studded ceremony in London, hosted by Scissor Sisters star Ana Matronic.

Since premiering in 2009, the sitcom has receiving 67 Emmy nominations, winning 21, and is now on its sixth season.

Eric Stonestreet, who plays Cam on the show, told Attitude: “The ‘X’ factor for us was how we could make Mitch and Cam relatable in a way that didn’t lead with their sexual orientation, because that’s not really what our show’s about anyway.”

Modern Family – which also stars Sofia Vergara, Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell – will return to Sky1 on Monday, November 3.
