Mean Girls reunion: Lindsay Lohan, Jonathan Bennett and more spill secrets

As it emerges Aaron Samuels was almost played by a different actor...

Lindsay Lohan, Jonathan Bennett, Daniel Franzese and other stars of the hit film Mean Girls reunited for a Zoom call over the weekend.

And our first response is: they all look exactly the same.

Hosted by TV star Katie Couric and shared on her Instagram page, the video also featured Mean Girls writer Tina Fey, plus stars Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried.

Couric played the part of Regina’s mother, standing in for absent comic Amy Poehler.

Check out her tracksuit…

The reunion took place to encourage fans to register to vote (more on which in a minute) which is, like, totally gruel.

As the stars chatted, it emerged that Bennett’s role of Aaron Samuels almost went to another actor.

“I was actually cast last minute,” said Bennett during the video. “I was flown up the night before because they did a switch or something…”

“Yeah,” Fey replied. “Someone got fired.”

Imagine how different things could have been!

The event was arranged by HeadCount, a non-profit organization that encourages people to participate in democracy in the US – for instance, by getting concertgoers to register to vote.

A page on the HeadCount website offering some context on the reunion explains: “Are you ready to celebrate Mean Girls Day on October 3rd – a day for all carb diets and all pink outfits? And what a coincidence – it’s also a month away from the November 3rd election.

“What a better way for you to use your voice and fetch some voter action! Here’s the deal, I need 5,000 of you to either register to vote, verify your registration, request a mail-in ballot below, or you can even volunteer as a poll worker.

“If we’re successful and you’re #GoodToVote, YOU CAN SIT WITH US and be generously indulged with a Mean Girls Day reunion with the original cast of the movie. Hope to see you soon!”
