A gay man has made history after becoming the first to propose to his boyfriend on The Voice Australia.

The first episode of the new season premiered yesterday (April 29) with an episode of blind auditions. Nathan Brake was one of the many auditionees and managed to wow the judges with his cover of Nick Jonas’ Jealous

Judges Joe Jonas, Kelly Rowland, Boy George and Delta Goodrem were all fighting to have Brake on their team.

But before he revealed his decision, Brake made another announcement, saying: “I’ve also made another decision that’s separate to choosing a coach.”

Brake then called Mitchell, his boyfriend of six years, on stage.

“I just wanted to bring you out here because we’ve had a beautiful six years together,” he explained to Mitchell. “You’ve been a constant support, so I just wanted to ask you, will you marry me?”

Mitchell replied: “Yes, of course.”

The four judges and audience then broke into applause, congratulating the couple.

Boy George said: “That was so beautiful. I love an unexpected proposal.”

Kelly Rowland urged the couple to keep her on the wedding list “Because I will perform ‘When Love Takes Over at your wedding.”

After the judges had finished congratulating Brake, he chose to join Delta Goodrem’s team.
