Madonna has lined up her second full-length feature film as director.

The Queen of Pop will direct an adaptation of Rebecca Walker’s novel Adé: A Love Story, Deadline reports.

The novel, published last October, is a love story about a Kenyan college student called Farida who falls in love with a Swahili man, Adé. The couple plan to marry and live their lives together in a simple, unfussy fashion – before civil war and Farida’s contracting of malaria threaten to tear them apart.

Reviewing the novel recently, Madonna enthused: “Read this book! An incredible journey! A beautiful LOVE story!”

Alongside Madonna as director, the film will have experienced hand Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Milk, Silver Linings Playbook) as producer. The project is said to be in its early stages and a screenwriter has yet to be hired.

Madonna’s only previous film as director was 2011’s W.E., a critical and commercial disappointment which partly dealt with the love story between King Edward VIII and American divorcee Wallis Simpson. As an actress, she won a Golden Globe for ‘Best Actress (Musical or Comedy)’ for 1996’s Evita.

Meanwhile, Madonna has recently confirmed she is working on a new album and is believed to have teased a new song called Rebel Heart on Instagram over the weekend.
