Madonna defends Diana, Mandela ‘Rebel Heart’ photos

Madonna has defended herself after she was criticised for posting photoshopped images of Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King Jr as part of her Rebel Heart album campaign.

The singer has posted a series of images on social media over recent days featuring iconic stars who she believes had or have a ‘rebel heart’.

She has also posted images of Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela and John Lennon with their faces tied up with black rope, mimicking her Rebel Heart album artwork.

Some commentators have described Madonna’s posts as “distasteful and cheap”.

Following the leak of her new material last month, Madonna released six songs from her upcoming record and announced that the album will be released in full on March 10 – read more here.

The 56-year-old has worked with the likes of Ryan Tedder, Diplo, Natalia Kills and Alicia Keys on her new material, with Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus expected to appear as featured artists.
