Madonna calls audience ‘diva b*tches’, cuts Manchester show short

By Will Stroude

Madonna was back in Britain for her second sting of UK Rebel Heart Tour dates last night (December 15), but her show at Manchester Arena didn’t exactly go according to plan.

The musical icon, who played two dates at London’s O2 at the start of month – complete with one special performance of ‘Like a Prayer’ to mark World AIDS Day – arrived on stage an hour late after apparently suffering technical difficulties, and she made it clear it she didn’t have time for any moaning audience members.

Just before launching into ‘True Blue’, the 57-year-old explained to the crowd why they’d been left waiting for an hour, but insisted that any “diva bitches” that wanted to complain about it shouldn’t come to her shows.

“Anyway, I just want to thank you all for waiting,” she told the audience. “My lateness tonight was due – I don’t like being late by the way alright, and all you diva bitches that keep complaining about it can shut the fuck up.

“I’m not back there eating chocolate for fun, filing my nails and getting my extensions done, alright?

“Tonight our video crashed and we had no video… so we had to wait ’til we could re-boot it.”

She added: “So that is why we are late, alright? For no selfish diva bitch reason. And if you diva bitches keep complaining about it, don’t come to my show.”

The late start time also meant that Madonna was forced to cut the set short in order to finish by 11.30pm, meaning songs including Who’s That Girl’, ‘Holiday’ and latest single ‘Unapologetic Bitch’ were dropped from the running order. Naturally, a fair few fans were less than impressed…

The show must go on though: Madge will take to the stage in Birmingham tomorrow night (December 16) before moving on to Glasgow this Sunday (December 20).
