Liza Minnelli has shared her thoughts on Ellen DeGeneres’s ‘drag queen’ joke at the Oscars on Sunday night (March 2), saying: “I think it went a little stray on her.”

Minnelli was sat in the audience at LA’s Dolby Theatre when DeGeneres, the event’s host, walked past and said to her: “Hello to the best Liza Minnelli impersonator I’ve ever seen. Good job, sir.”

Asked about the joke by TMZ, Minnelli replied: “I think she thought it would be funny… but she never stopped after she said it and said ‘my friend Liza Minnelli’, so I think it went a little stray on her.”

She continued: “I don’t think she meant any harm.”

During the awards ceremony, Minnelli just missed out out on being featured in Ellen DeGeneres’s ultimate celebrity selfie.
