Little Mix reveal new single has helped gay fans come out

By Troy Nankervis

Little Mix have said the message behind their latest single ‘Secret Love Song’ has played in a role in helping many of their gay fans come out.

As the latest track on their album Get Weird, the song also features guest vocals from Jason Derulo, and follows speculation last year an expanded version of the track was specifically written as a gay anthem.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock told Capital FM the band has been contacted by many fans since its release to say the track really hit a chord.

“We’ve had loads of people saying it’s helped them almost to come out, say that they’re gay and that is an incredible thing,” said Pinnock.

“It’s so inspiring when we hear these stories with the music that we’re putting out. To be able to give someone the belief to say something, it’s just an amazing feeling.”

Jesy Nelson added the lyrics of the song were open to interpretation. “It could be about anything really,” she said.

“It could be about couples that aren’t allowed to be together, or feel like they can’t be together. It could be about being in love with someone who doesn’t even know you’re in love with them” It relates to anyone who has ever been in a situation like that.”

Meanwhile, the girls have spoken of their desire to collaborate with The Spice Girls, should the 20th year anniversary reunion go ahead, reports Sunday World.

“We’d love to be involved with [a Spice Girls reunion], they said.

“We love the Spice Girls and want to perform with them. They know that. Hopefully we get to support them and do a duet.”
