By Josh Haggis

Laverne Cox has been cast in a new US legal drama, it has been announced.

The transgender actress, best known for her role on popular Netflix series Orange Is The New Black, has been cast in Doubt, a legal drama that, if picked up, could potentially air on US network CBS.

Although details surrounding the show are scarce, Deadline have confirmed that Cox will play Cameron Wirth – a “fierce and funny, competitive and compassionate transgender Ivy League-educated attorney.”

The drama, penned by Grey’s Anatomy writers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater, centres on a “smart, chic and successful lawyer” who finds herself getting romantically involved with a client who “may or may not be” guilty of a serious violent crime.

We’re getting serious Ally McBeal vibes here, although hopefully minus the dancing baby…
