Kevin Spacey has been lined up to play Winston Churchill in an upcoming big screen biopic.

The two-time Oscar-winner will star in Captain of the Gate, a film which will follow Churchill’s rise to power as he helped defend the UK from a Nazi invasion during the Second World War.

The film has a script by Ben Kaplan, who previously penned a History Channel biopic of Ronald Reagan, reports THR. The project is still looking for a director.

Churchill served as Prime Minister from 1941-45, and again from 1951-55, and is still widely regarded as a figurehead of British politics, and one of the greatest Prime Ministers the UK has ever had.

Spacey currently stars as ruthless politician Francis Underwood in hit Netflix drama series House of Cards, whose second season premiered in full on Valentine’s Day.

Netflix renewed the political drama for a third season in February, before the second season had even aired.
