Katy Perry fires back at Taylor Swift through song?
By Will Stroude
It’s no secret at this point that Taylor Swift’s most recent frenemy kiss-off single Bad Blood was inspired by fellow pop superstar Katy Perry – we’ve not exactly been inundated with denials, people – but if the song title that Perry just registered is anything to go by, we could be about to experience a musical spat the likes of which haven’t bee seen since the heady days of Frankie and Eamonn.
Perry – who is currently working on the follow-up to 2013’s Prism – has just registered a song entitled 1984 with music publisher BMI, PerezHilton reports. The track is co-written by Dallas Austin, Andreas Carlsson, Patrick Collier and Nazerine Tokio and has clear allusions to Taylor’s most recent album 1989.
Whether the track will see the light of day remains to be seen, but it’s the latest in a string of seemingly veiled barbs between the pair.
Swift orginally alluded to the feud in an interview with Rolling Stone last year, saying: “For years, I was never sure if we were friends or not. She would come up to me at awards shows and say something and walk away, and I would think, ‘Are we friends, or did she just give me the harshest insult of my life?’”
The 25-year-old claimed that the popstar “tried to sabotage” her recent arena tour.
“She did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh, we’re just straight-up enemies’. And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business.
“She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it,” Swift said.
On the day the comments emerged, Perry tweeted, “Beware the Regina George in sheep’s clothing” – a reference to Mean Girls‘ bitchy high school Queen Bee.
And while Taylor was busy unveiling the star-studded line-up for the Bad Blood video last month – which saw her betrayed by Selena Gomez sporting a brunette bob – Perry tweeted cryptically that time is “the ultimate truth teller”.
Time, the ultimate truth teller.

Could the release of 1984 see that tweet come into fruition? We guess only time will tell…
