Katy Perry, Ariana Grande lead MTV EMA nominations

Katy Perry and Ariana Grande have secured the most nominations for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards.

The Dark Horse singer has seven nominations, Grande is close behind with six nods, while Pharrell Williams and 5 Seconds of Summer are up for five prizes.

Sam Smith, One Direction, Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Kiesza and Nicki Minaj each have four nominations.

This year’s Best Song category will be contested by Grande and Izalea’s Problem, Eminem and Rihanna’s The Monster, Perry’s Dark Horse, Smith’s Stay With Me, and Pharrell’s Happy.

Grande, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift are all nominated for Best Female, while Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell will compete for Best Male.

The 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards will take place at Glasgow’s SSE Hydro on Sunday, November 9.
